How We Score Software

SmallBusinessTools.io evaluates software using three independent scoring layers. Rankings are enforced at the database query level — vendor payment status is structurally excluded from every ranking query.

Each tool receives up to three separate scores, displayed individually and never silently averaged into a single number.

Layer 1: Platform Verified

Publicly verifiable facts: listed features, pricing from the vendor's own website, available integrations, support channels.

Criteria: Feature completeness, pricing transparency, integration breadth, support availability, security certifications.

Layer 2: Editorial

Independent hands-on evaluation by our editorial team.

Criteria: Ease of onboarding, UI/UX quality, reliability, customer support response, value for money.

Layer 3: Community

Trust-weighted reviews from verified small business operators. Email verification and moderation required before publication.

Editorial Independence Enforcement

Rankings are enforced at the query level. Payment-related fields are structurally excluded from all ranking queries and enforced by automated CI checks.

Conflict-of-Interest Disclosure

This site is funded by vendors who pay for listings and evaluation. Funding does not and cannot influence organic rankings.
